Given that you are already familiar with all the basic concepts, we also have a lot more hands-on exercises in the Advanced Course compared to the Introductory Course.

The class is limited to a maximum of 15 participants to allow for one-on-one coaching during the hands-on exercises with BayesiaLab. This small-group format provides a productive yet informal learning environment that facilitates a lively dialog between participants from a wide range of backgrounds.

After the end of the course, you can continue your studies as you will have access to your training BayesiaLab license. The BayesiaLab's Media Center will give you access to the slides, as well as a complete recording of the seminar.

We propose four types of training sessions:

  • In-Person Classroom (limited to 15 participants). The participants have also access to a complete recording of the seminar via the Media Center of their 60-Day BayesiaLab Professional Edition.

  • Virtual Classroom (limited to 15 participants). The participants have also access to a complete recording of the seminar via the Media Center of their 60-Day BayesiaLab Professional Edition.

  • LivestreamAs an alternative to joining our classroom session in person, you can also participate via a simultaneous Livestream from your home or office anywhere in the world. The participants have also access to a complete recording of the seminar via the Media Center of their 60-Day BayesiaLab Education Edition.

  • Offline Self-StudyIf the timing of the seminar isn't right for you, you can always opt for the Self-Study Edition. This allows you to start your own training program at your convenience. The participants have access to the slides and a complete recording of the latest 3-day seminar (in-person or virtual reality) via the Media Center of their 60-Day BayesiaLab Education Edition.

    Classroom Session Format

    • Classroom sessions are limited to a maximum of 15 participants.
    • Presentation slides and software demos are projected on a large screen.
    • A hardcopy workbook contains all presentation slides plus exercises.
    • All exercises, datasets, and example networks are provided on a USB memory stick.
    • The instructor will be available to coach you one-on-one as you progress through the exercises.
    • You will need to bring their own WiFi-enabled computer/laptop to the classroom session (Windows XP, Vista, 7, 8, 10, or Mac OS X).

    60-Day License of BayesiaLab Professional Edition

    In conjunction with the seminars, participants have access to an unrestricted 60-Day license of BayesiaLab Professional (the very latest release), so they can experiment with the full array of functions during and after the training.

    During these 60 days, participants will have access to a complete recording of the session via the BayesiaLab's Media Center.

    Learn in a Virtual World

    Virtual Reality means that the instructor and all students are virtually present in a private classroom at the Laval Virtual World. Our virtual classroom looks just like a physical seminar room. It features individual desks for students, a podium, plus multiple presentation screens. What's different is that your avatar is in the classroom on your behalf, while you are in the comfort of your home, anywhere in the world.

    The classes are limited to a maximum of 15 participants in order to allow for one-on-one coaching during the hands-on exercises with BayesiaLab. This small-group format provides a productive yet informal learning environment that facilitates a lively dialogue between participants from a wide range of backgrounds.

    No More Squinting at Slides

    You see and hear everything in the classroom. You have a perfectly clear view of the presentation screen, able to zoom in to see all details. So, there is no more tinkering with room lights and projector focus, and no one can obscure your view.

    The same applies to acoustics. Your audio is perfect, and you can clearly hear what everyone says—even the guy in the far corner of the room with a really soft voice. Also, you can speak with individuals, address the whole class, or privately ask questions.

    And, the technology requirements are straightforward. All you need is a computer with a headset and microphone. You won't even need a camera, as your customizable avatar is your public persona in our virtual world.

    Also, you can share the screen of your local computer, so the instructor can "look over your shoulder" and coach you through the exercises with BayesiaLab.

    60-Day License of BayesiaLab Professional Edition

    In conjunction with the seminars, participants have access to an unrestricted 60-Day license of BayesiaLab Professional (the very latest release), so they can experiment with the full array of functions during and after the training.

    During these 60 days, participants have access to the slides and videos recorded during the 3-day training sessions via the BayesiaLab's Media Center. 

    Technical Requirements

    To participate in the course using the VirBELA software and running BayesiaLab at the same time, you will need to be equipped and configured as follows:

    • Software
      • Windows 7 SP1 or later
      • Mac OS X 10.11 or later
      • Administrator rights to install software
    • Hardware
      • ​Intel Core i5 CPU or better
      • Graphics card with DX10+
      • 4 GB+ of RAM
      • 5 GB+ of available storage on SSD/HDD
      • Dedicated headset with attached microphone—using your laptop "speakerphone-style" may not guarantee echo-free audio.
      • We recommend using a large high-resolution display or a two-screen setup, e.g., laptop screen plus external display.
      • Using a mouse as a pointing device—as opposed to a touchpad—is highly recommended.
      • Broadband Internet connection
  • Livestream

    Livestream participants have access to the slides directly via BayesiaLab, and have access to a reliable livestream of the session, showing what is projected on screen to on-site participants. 

    Livestream Session Format

    • The classroom session will be streamed in real-time, i.e., 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. (local time at course venue).
    • You can watch the content projected in the classroom and simultaneously hear the instructor's voice via a real-time GoToMeeting connection. You will see the presentation slides and software demos shown on the screen.
    • You will have access to the slides and to a complete recording of the livestream for 60 days after the event via the BayesiaLab's Media Center.
    • Given the one-way nature of a livestream broadcast, you will not be able to ask questions or actively participate in the classroom discussion. Furthermore, the instructor will not be able to provide you with any of the hands-on support that would be available in the classroom.
    • The livestream video content will be distributed in HD, i.e., in a resolution of 1920 x 1080. The quality on your screen will depend on the speed of your Internet connection. Bayesia cannot guarantee the quality or reliability of the livestream on your end.
    • You will need to have a computer running Windows XP, Vista, 7, 8, 10, or Mac OS X to participate in the livestream session and run BayesiaLab.

    BayesiaLab

    During the 3-day seminar, the participants have access to BayesiaLab Professional Edition to be able to participate in the exercises.

    After the seminar, participants will have access to a 60-Day license of BayesiaLab Education Edition. It is functionally equivalent to the full commercial edition of BayesiaLab Professional used during the training session, with the following exceptions:

    • The number of variables/nodes is limited to 50.
    • The maximum size of a data set for learning is 1,000 rows/records.

  • Offline Self-Study

    Offline participants have access to the slides and a complete recording of the latest 3-day seminar (in-person or virtual reality) via the BayesiaLab's Media Center.

    There is no mechanism to submit individual questions to the instructor, nor support for the hands-on activities.

    60-Day license of BayesiaLab Education Edition

    In conjunction with the seminar, participants have access to a 60-Day license of BayesiaLab Education Edition. It is functionally equivalent to the full commercial edition of BayesiaLab Professional used during the training session, with the following exceptions:

    • The number of variables/nodes is limited to 50,
